Motörwind

Lost Jimmy's post on Hawkwind songs covered by Motörhead has put me in the mood for a little light Motörwind music.

Here's the band at full speed playing their title track with Phil Lynott just before his death.

The story is that Lynott couldn't keep off the stage, but had no idea what he was playing. Eddie Clarke, standing next to Lynott, is shouting E! (He didn't know either.) Vic Maile mixed a version with Lynott's bass upfront to embarrass him.

Meanwhile, Brian Robertson's guitar wasn't plugged in; while erstwhile drummer, Lucas Fox, was given a guitar which was plugged in.

Typical Motörhead organization.

A similar fiasco happened at Hawkwind's 30th Anniversars bash at the Brixton Accademy. Guitars not plugged in, synth's disconnected.

Typical Hawkwind organization.

Was that the Hawkestra, with Sam Fox & Lemmy? Motörhead's 25th on the next night.

"The gig was filmed and recorded, but within days squabbles between band members had broken out, and neither the film nor the sound recordings have surfaced since. The payment that the band received was also a fiasco, each musician receiving £100 for their performance, when the gig had generated £70,000. Legal action against the show's promoters followed."

Yeagh, that was the one.

I wonder how well organised Hawkwind holidays will be if it takes off? With their organisational skills it could turn into an episode of Lost.
