Riders Of The Lost Bus



Cue Indy theme music and cut to the 471 bus with a young slip of a lass driving to the heart of darkness that is Brussels. Suddenly, "Does anyone know the way to the Gare du Nord?" cries our damsel driver in distress. Without hesitation Indiana Campbell leapt to his feet, doffed his virtual Fedora, cracked a whip (or was that the sound of his knees?) and ran the gauntlet of a bumpy ride to save the day. Directions delivered with cockney aplomb and we were back en-route shadowing the legendary '65 to arrive at our final destination, shaken but not stirred. The glow of a dying sun bathes the world in blood, or was it the glowing cheeks of a blushing driver that lit the night sky that night?. Cue end theme, roll credits and fade to black.

Am I mad, in a coma, or have I just been listening to the Life On Mars Original Soundtrack CD. Most excellent. Not surprising really as the picking ground for material, the 70's, has been identified as the best decade for popular music. My only criticism of it is the lack of any Hawkwind , not that I'm biased, especially as the show has featured Brainstorm , Silver Machine , Urban Guerrilla , Ejection and You Shouldn't Do That over its two seasons. Still there's always the potential for a second soundtrack album at some stage in the future and plenty of material still to chose from. The 100 Best and Absolute Greatest Heavy Metal Albums in the World, Ever.

As I've just about completed my collection of 100 CDs culled from Jacelyn Bond's damn fine book, and bastard of a charade title, The 100 Best and Absolute Greatest Heavy Metal Albums in the World, Ever , I thought it was about time I blogged the list to aid anyone else who wants to make their world a little heavier. Collecting the albums has been a long strange trip through the annals of rock history and taken me through classics by the likes of Sabbath, AC/DC and Deep Purple to Scandinavian Death Metal. Yes the choices are debateable but the book is a great way of discovering some wonderful music to headbang like a maniac to. It's got some notable omisions too, in particular a certain Black Country band who most would argue are the greatest rock and roll band of all timel and who cast a giant blimp shaped shaddow over the genre.
