A Shaggy Bird story

Image
In the course of discussing penguins in the office, as you do,one of my colleagues said and I quote: - The Penguin. Part bird, part fish; or is it a mammal? No way I scoffed, penguins have beaks, and wings. Clearly a descendant of the dinosaur, like their feathered cousins. A trawl of the web however, turned up above picture, which clearly proves, that penguins are in fact part fish! Furthermore, as this BBC footage shows, Penguins are in fact flying fish. I'm not sure about the mammal part mind, although I did hear rumors of a waddle of Emperor Penguins spotted breast feeding in a Melbourne diner. The customers were apparently outraged by this behavior and bombarded the mammary ial miscreants with fillets of fish. These were promptly dispatched with some aplomb down the gullets of the intended targets, before the bouncer, a large kangaroo called Steve, threw them out onto the street. I wonder what they're like battered and deep fried? A Penguin supper anyone?

A crêpe, a kriek beer and a good book. Not a bad way to spend pancake day when you're away from blighty.

Tribute II

Image
This is a tribute to the greatest and best beer in the world. No probably about it. As a road trip was in the offing to the monastic Mecca of beer, yours truly had to get an order in for a crate of the finest beer on the planet. And two glasses too.

Seasick at the AB - The Animals are Out Tonight

Image
Last year I enjoyed some excellent concerts at AB in Brussels. John Mayall , Dave Holland , Joan as Police Woman , Motörhead and the Fleet Foxes all came and turned in stunning performances. Literally in the case of Motörhead who hit you like a jet propelled sledgehammer. 2008 was going to be a tough act to follow in terms of quality, but a spot of Seasickness brought on by a grizzled American blues man called Steve opened this years account nicely. Steve Wold has been around for a long time, born in 1941 he's known the likes of Janice Joplin. In 2007 he won the Mojo award for best breakthrough act. At the age of 66 thats got to be some kind of record. His first UK TV appearance was on Jools Hollands new year's eve Hootenany in 2006. Unfortunately for me the gig was a sell out and my Brussels mobile remained depressingly silent with regard to the waiting list call I hoped would come. Cometh the hour, cometh the ticket touts however, and after a period of haggling I joined Big

Frank Skinner - Bin Laden Song

I first saw Frank at the Lichfield Fringe many moons ago, a couple of quid to get in, 20 bods in the audience and Eddie Izzard on the same bill. Being in the front row had the added advantage that he took the Micky out of my baby faced buddy Black Adder at every opportunity. "How's your love life?" he quipped, "Keep plenty of hankies by your bed do you?". Ah golden comedic moments to treasure. Here's a song from the man himself to bring those happy memories flooding back...
