All You Need is Love Seat

Two Spurs fans in the White Hotel sit in the infamous love seat while the ghostly spectre of a White Moose gazes on. Of course it could be an adult male deer, which would make it a White Hart. Not quite White Hart Lane, but still, no moose is good moose.

Have I died? Have I gone mad? Or am I in The White Hotel Brussels?

Looking at the decor in this place I think that the last two are true, although I did fly back to Scotland last night as my son hit 16 today.

My last room, 011, was one of the weirdest, a weird figure of 8 shaped tub, around 8ft long, under the TV set. A circular wooden gun site, that wouldn't have looked out of place on the Bomber rig, squatting next to a weird wooden Tripod with a horizontal wooden circle on top and a dwarf rocking chair. It's like Stonehenge in '85 all over again.

I guess I kind of like this place. If you ever get to Brussels, check it out, that and Cafe Delerium with over 2,000 beers (Thursday night there is live band night).

Am I mad, in a coma, or have I just been listening to the Life On Mars Original Soundtrack CD. Most excellent. Not surprising really as the picking ground for material, the 70's, has been identified as the best decade for popular music. My only criticism of it is the lack of any Hawkwind , not that I'm biased, especially as the show has featured Brainstorm , Silver Machine , Urban Guerrilla , Ejection and You Shouldn't Do That over its two seasons. Still there's always the potential for a second soundtrack album at some stage in the future and plenty of material still to chose from. The 100 Best and Absolute Greatest Heavy Metal Albums in the World, Ever.

As I've just about completed my collection of 100 CDs culled from Jacelyn Bond's damn fine book, and bastard of a charade title, The 100 Best and Absolute Greatest Heavy Metal Albums in the World, Ever , I thought it was about time I blogged the list to aid anyone else who wants to make their world a little heavier. Collecting the albums has been a long strange trip through the annals of rock history and taken me through classics by the likes of Sabbath, AC/DC and Deep Purple to Scandinavian Death Metal. Yes the choices are debateable but the book is a great way of discovering some wonderful music to headbang like a maniac to. It's got some notable omisions too, in particular a certain Black Country band who most would argue are the greatest rock and roll band of all timel and who cast a giant blimp shaped shaddow over the genre.
